Amayo and Central America Wind
Arctas is the lead developer and 45% owner of 40MW Amayo wind project (Phase I) under construction in Nicaragua.

  • Central America suffers from high-priced power prices due to oil-based power plants. At current oil prices, Amayo’s power price is significantly below the most efficient oil-fired plant in the system and even further below the local grid prices.
  • Amayo will reduce 130,000 to 140,000 tonnes of carbon emissions each year.
  • Arctas secured $72 million in project finance debt for the project from regional development bank.
  • Plant is under construction and expected online by end of 2008.

Arctas is in advanced stages of development for Phase II (another 40MW): site and equipment option secured; sufficient capacity on its Phase I substation; advanced discussions with offtaker, regulator and lender.
